Programs that focus on enabling individuals requiring services typically needed by adults with chronic mental illness to attain or maintain their maximum functional level by assisting with the learning, retention or improvement in self-help, socialization and adaptive skills. Services are typically provided during the day time hours on an hourly, half day or full day basis and are provided to enhance or support: intellectual functioning, physical and emotional health, language and communication development, cognitive functioning, socialization and community integration, functional skill development, behavior management, responsibility and self-direction, daily living activities, self-advocacy skills, and mobility. Services are provided in a non-residential setting, separate from the consumer's residence.
